Vote for top artists in the ultimate St Patrick’s Day playlist
May 2nd, 2010
Anyone wanting to celebrate all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day this year can get involved in the musical project to create the ultimate St Patrick’s playlist. Popular online music streaming service, Spotify, has partnered with Tourism Ireland to identify the top tune for the 17th March festivities. All are welcome to take part, including the three million listeners who take advantage of Spotify’s offerings, as well as new comers to the service. Those visiting the St Patrick’s Day playlist page can listen to the current top tracks as well as vote for their favourite songs and artists.
Voters will not only be able to help their favourite stars get to the top of the list, but will also be entered into a draw to win a weekend away in Dublin as part of the promotion. The prize includes two nights in the penthouse suite at the five star Clarence Hotel, which is owned by Bono and The Edge from U2. A gig at the Button Factory and a ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Stroll’ tour of Dublin will also be included.
Artists already in the playlist include Belfast boy Van Morrison with Brown Eyed Girl, Irish folk legends The Dubliners who perform The Sick Note and are also featured act in Irish Rover with The Pogues, Celtic rockers The Waterboys with The Whole of the Moon, and talented Irish vocalist Mary Black with her song Katie, alongside greats such as U2, Snowpatrol, Ash. Other favourites include Thin Lizzy, Glen Hansard & Markéta Iglová, The Divine Comedy, Roísín Murphy, Damien Rice and Johnny Cash.
Voters have until Sunday the 14th of March to take part in the playlist competition. On St Patrick’s Day itself, the final playlist will be sent to all those who took part, allowing them to listen to top tunes as they enjoy St Patrick’s Day to the full! All those interested can visit http://www.spotifyads.com/tourismireland for more information and to register their vote.
