Firstly, let’s talk about what you need to get ready before hand in order to have your surround sound installation easy and quick.
Know your surround sound source – Many people would have overlooked this step due to the excitement when purchasing their surround sound system. Understand the difference between “coaxial” and “optical” output. An opticalcable is simply a cable which is fiber optic whereas the coaxial is a shielded RCA cable. Both will work equally fine, so you’ll really only need one.
Where to place them? Usually at the back of your DVD player, simply connect it into the input channel of your surround sound system. To ease the installation process of your home surround system, make sure you have already planned or know beforehand what type of cables and various input output channels your’e going to use. Always strive for the better one if you can afford it.
The reason why most surround systems are labeled as 5.1 because it splits the source into 5 different outputs coupled with one lower frequency sound, the sub woofer. Knowing when to put all 5 speakers is difficult to master because you’ll have to manually test each set up, installing on the other hand, is somewhat easy.
Tip 2 of surround sound installation – Find your placement area. By that it simply means to have an overall picture of how the speakers are going to be placed. Because you might be buying something different, therefore a different layout is needed. There will be some sort of differences in terms of placement between on-shelf speakers, on-wall speakers and such.
The most popular setup you can easily find is with a 40 inch TV and two stand alone speakers at the rear end of your seat. For the best viewing on a 40 inch TV, site about 5-8 feet away from it.
A wood surface is recommended for your sub woofer, however it really does not matter because the low frequency bass sound can be heard just fine no matter where you put them. Both the front speakers should be placed right beside your TV, make sure you do not spread them too wide. Form a triangle shape with he end point being the furthest point away from TV before the quality degrades. That way the area for the sweet spot will be at the widest, and everybody within it can enjoy high quality sound.
Surround sound installation tip 3 is this, once you’ve identify your area, make a triangle like shape with the 2 front speakers, while the point ends at the maximum distance of seating area before TV quality degenerates. Simply have the two rear surround speakers at the back of you and face them to the side or towards your back. This will create the surround effect.
If you wonder why surround sound are so popular, it is because they can give you cinema like effect right in the comfort at your own home, therefore each speaker placement must be optimize to get the best possible sound.
If you find that your living area has become considerably smaller, try adjusting the speakers around until you are satisfied with the quality. It takes a little work and testing to get it, but it should be well worth it once you’ve gotten and hit the sweet spot.
